Where to Take Mom for Mother's Day in Mid-Michigan (2026 Edition)
By Shelley | NextHome Park Place Homes Group | Midland, MI
Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10th. If you live in the Tri-Cities area and you're still figuring out where to take her, you're not behind, but you should probably make a reservation today.
I put together this list because I know how hard it can be to find solid, local options that are actually confirmed and actually worth your time. No generic suggestions, no "check your local listings." These are three real places, right here in mid-Michigan, doing something special for the day.
Apple Mountain, Freeland — The Scenic Splurge
If you want a setting that does some of the heavy lifting for you, Apple Mountain in Freeland is hard to beat. Situated on 307 acres, the Mountain View Restaurant overlooks the resort grounds, and their annual Mother's Day Buffet turns it into something genuinely memorable.
The buffet runs from 11am to 4:30pm and features a made-to-order omelet station, breakfast favorites, fresh salads, entrees, and desserts. It's the kind of spread where everyone in the group finds something they love, which matters more than people admit when you're feeding three generations at one table.
Pricing is reasonable for what you get, and the setting makes it feel like an occasion rather than just Sunday lunch.
Reservations are required. Book online at applemountain.com or call ahead.

The H Hotel, Midland — Downtown Elegant
If mom is the kind of person who appreciates a beautiful room and doesn't need to be convinced to dress up a little, The H Hotel's Mother's Day Brunch in the Indigo Ballroom is the move.
The H Hotel sits right in the heart of downtown Midland at 111 W. Main Street, which makes it easy to extend the morning into a walk through town, a stop at a local shop, or just a slow cup of coffee somewhere nearby. The Indigo Ballroom is a genuinely elegant space; this isn't a banquet hall with round tables and fluorescent lighting. It's the kind of place that makes a regular Sunday feel like a real event.
Pricing is $60 per adult, $25 for children ages 6-10, and free for children 5 and under. That's a fair price for the experience, and it's the kind of meal that tends to become a tradition once you do it once.
Reservations are required. Call (989) 837-6027 to book your table.

Fireside Bar and Grille, Shepherd — Home-Style and Family-Friendly
Not every family wants upscale, and that's completely valid. If what you're looking for is a hearty, home-style brunch without a lot of fuss, Fireside Bar and Grille in Shepherd is doing a full Mother's Day Brunch Buffet on May 10th that deserves a spot on your radar.
The menu is the kind of spread that covers everyone: sliced smoked pit ham, scrambled eggs, sausage, loaded vegetarian quiche, breakfast potatoes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, chicken salad croissants, a salad station, a waffle station, fresh fruit, and assorted pastries and desserts. In reality, that's a lot of food, and it's the kind of menu where even the picky eaters at the table find their thing.
Three seatings are available: 11am, 12:30pm, and 2pm. Pricing is $32.99 per adult, $12 for children ages 5-12, and free for children under 5 with an adult buffet purchase. There's also a 10% senior discount, which is a genuinely thoughtful touch.
Reservations are required. Call 989-828-6315 ext. 2 to hold your spot.

Other thoughts
And if none of these work for your family, Moms, in my experience, aren't usually asking for elaborate. They're asking for you. Real talk: the best Mother's Day I ever heard of didn't involve a restaurant reservation or a gift bag.
It was just time. Unhurried, unscheduled, present.
If your mom is local to the Midland, Bay City, or Saginaw area, here's what I'd suggest: pack a blanket and head to Wenonah Park in Bay City. Grab coffee from somewhere nearby, sit by the water, and just be there with her.
To be fair, a little effort in planning never hurts either. So if you want to add something more structured, the Pere Marquette Rail-Trail is a beautiful option for a morning bike ride or walk before a nice lunch in downtown Midland.
The Midland Area Farmers Market runs on May 9th, the Saturday before Mother's Day, and is a genuinely lovely morning with food trucks, fresh flowers, and that slow, unhurried energy that makes for a good memory.
Whatever you do, make it about her and not the itinerary.
Happy early Mother's Day to all the moms in mid-Michigan. You carry a lot, and it doesn't go unnoticed.
